Hey, guess what? Bauhaus is finishing up their first album since they broke up in 1983! Oh, but what? They are breaking up again and won’t tour to support it? No…. Well, at least I got to see them in 2006. Neener neener neener. Filed under: Rock in the News Comments: None |

There’s a nice interview on Zombie today on the Rolling Stone blog. The thought of him making a western horror (apparently called Weird West) has me reeling already. I’m envisioning this, but better: plus this: If you need any western prop connections, I know a few people… Filed under: Rock in the News Comments: None |

There’s a decent article on western bands touring the East today, and Nine Inch Nails is given as an example of one of the bands. In fact, there’s a picture of Trent as the crown of the piece:
The article describes the East as being starved for Western music, not having access to many records that, while government regulations are relaxing, are still difficult to obtain. The allure for the artists appears to be that the fans are desperate for their music, maybe more so than the fans here in the states that are going to an increasingly large number of shows and are more difficult to impress. Perhaps it is also lucrative, as sponsors apparently pick up the slack leftover from the mandatory low ticket costs. However, as this article mentions, and I’ve also read it on the NIN boards, the quality of the local crews can frustrate the bands. Funny that, as our bands seek new audiences in the East, a startling number of bands have been denied access to the U.S., causing tour cancellations: Klaxons, Happy Mondays, M.I.A., The Pipettes, Amy Winehouse… Filed under: Nine Inch Nails and Rock in the News Comments: None |

MySpace finally got a clue and fixed their standalone player. Now I can go to an artist’s page and it will transition from song to song without forcing me to manually do it. This was one of the most annoying things ever. Thanks, Tom! Filed under: Rock in the News Comments: None |

At least I thought they would blame Norwegian Black Metal. But, even though the YouTube video that the little sociopath posted before acting out his fantasy has music, it’s only described as ‘hard-driving’. Hmmm…. The name he posted the video under happens to be the name of a band from Berlin. In a preemptive statement, a Sturmgeist member has posted a statement claiming that their music is nonviolent, and that Sturmgeist is also a character in the video game Medal of Honor. Way to drag games into it. Seriously, though, I’m glad to see metal not being made an instigator for once. Filed under: Rock in the News Comments: None |

NYT has a very interesting article today about the new deals being inked with bands by the dying labels. The labels are looking to diversify, in other words, to get a cut from all of the other money making revenue streams for bands: merch and concerts. This is in exchange for more upfront financial support so these kids can eat. So, I may take my fair share of free mp3s, but almost all of my disposable income goes to shows. Get the picture? Just as record buying plummets, concert ticket sales soar- so it’s really all the same, right? Not really- now a band has to go through a grueling recording schedule into an even more brutal touring schedule. Rough stuff. And then this can probably all be linked to to rise in canceled shows (more shows to do…leads to exhaustion…drugs….etc.). Filed under: Rock in the News Comments: None |

There are rumors flying that a biopic on Plasmatics singer Wendy O. Williams will star some bland blonde from Heroes. Ick. I mean really. Something will get lost in translation from this: to this: Filed under: Rock in the News Comments: None |

Is this legal? Seems a bit odd to me… Ozzy fans were duped into attending a pre-party where they were promptly escorted off to jail. Granted these people had ditched court, but it seems like these Fargo cops were thinking they were in the movie or something. Plus, Ozzy and Rob Zombie couldn’t have been in cahoots on this, right? NYT has an article about the difficulty of scoring good tickets by virtue of the general on sale. GA tickets to a small to mid sized venue can be relatively easy to come by, if you have quick fingers and are properly logged into your account. Amphitheaters and arenas….fuggedaboutit. I have grown past the naive days of trying, and on to the land of Ticketmaster auctions and eBay. The good tickets not only go to scalpers, but they go to corporate sponsors, media, residents of the locale, etc. Will lawyers fix the problem? Probably not.
