Seriously? A remix site. If Celebrity Deathmatch were still on, this would be a great pairing. Radiohead, however, makes you pay for the individual files. And now The Raconteurs how somewhat jumped into the mix with the spontaneous release of their latest album. Interesting times. Keep one-upping each other, kids. In a unique leveraging of events, Dr. Pepper has announced that it will give a free Dr. Pepper to everyone in America- excluding the band members involved in the album (which includes Slash and Buckethead)- if Chinese Democracy is released in 2008. Axl replied that he’s ‘happy to have the support of Dr. Pepper’. So, you might either be able to enjoy what will probably be a very ’90’s sounding album with a very ’90’s drink sometime in the next 9 months. Don’t hold your breath. I’m watching American Idol. Hey, don’t hate- chalk it up to my consuming all things music. I watched the first season, then bailed when it became this ridiculous phenomenon. I also came to the realization that I would never buy any of the people on the show’s albums, or go to any of their shows. Blame the writer’s strike for bringing me back after all these years. But what’s kept me watching is the fact that 4 contestants on the show- 1 now is gone- are people who I might actually listen to one day. Yes, I know, I was shocked, too. It’s been confirmed, Velvet Revolver is over. It was inevitable, as with Audioslave, that the established singer joining an established band formula is only to be a short lived burst of awesomeness. After the magical show they gave last year, they downward spiral started with the aborted Sundance performance, Weiland’s jive talk at the last show I saw of theirs, a Weiland rehab stint, the STP reunion announcement, and some Sorum/Weiland riffs during their European tour. Read the parting statements here. Fans are already suggesting that Chris Cornell step in… Filed under: Rock in the News Comments: 1 Comment |

Hey, guess what? Bauhaus is finishing up their first album since they broke up in 1983! Oh, but what? They are breaking up again and won’t tour to support it? No…. Well, at least I got to see them in 2006. Neener neener neener. Filed under: Rock in the News Comments: 1 Comment |

There’s a nice interview on Zombie today on the Rolling Stone blog. The thought of him making a western horror (apparently called Weird West) has me reeling already. I’m envisioning this, but better: plus this: If you need any western prop connections, I know a few people… Filed under: Rock in the News Comments: None |

There’s a decent article on western bands touring the East today, and Nine Inch Nails is given as an example of one of the bands. In fact, there’s a picture of Trent as the crown of the piece:
The article describes the East as being starved for Western music, not having access to many records that, while government regulations are relaxing, are still difficult to obtain. The allure for the artists appears to be that the fans are desperate for their music, maybe more so than the fans here in the states that are going to an increasingly large number of shows and are more difficult to impress. Perhaps it is also lucrative, as sponsors apparently pick up the slack leftover from the mandatory low ticket costs. However, as this article mentions, and I’ve also read it on the NIN boards, the quality of the local crews can frustrate the bands. Funny that, as our bands seek new audiences in the East, a startling number of bands have been denied access to the U.S., causing tour cancellations: Klaxons, Happy Mondays, M.I.A., The Pipettes, Amy Winehouse… Filed under: Nine Inch Nails and Rock in the News Comments: None |

MySpace finally got a clue and fixed their standalone player. Now I can go to an artist’s page and it will transition from song to song without forcing me to manually do it. This was one of the most annoying things ever. Thanks, Tom! Filed under: Rock in the News Comments: None |
